CONCLUSION

In this analysis, the writer analyses about kinds of politeness strategies based on Brown and Levinson theory that are applied in facebook. Politeness strategy based on Brown and Levinson are “do the FTA” and “do not do the FTA”. Do the FTA is divided into two; on record and off record. On record is divided into two; without redressive action (badly) and with redressive action. With redressive action is divided into two; positive politeness and negative politeness. The writer finds 3 politeness strategies applied in the status and comments in facebook, they are; without redressive action, baldly, positive politeness, negative politeness.

Without redressive action, baldly is types of politeness strategy believed that the utterance produced by the speaker include as direct and threat the hearer directly. In this case, they do not provide any opening but directly utter his point of the case. These strategies used by students that have close relation and do not attempt to minimize the threat to hearer’s face. Meanwhile, positive politeness is oriented toward the positive self-image that he claims for himself; in this case, this strategy is directed redressive to the addressee. The speaker uses this strategy to make the hearer feel good about him. This strategy is usually used in situations where the audience knows each other such as, friendship and solidarity. Negative politeness is emphasizing avoidance of imposition on the hearer. In this case, the speaker tries to give freedom to the hearer response, in order to make the hearer comfortable and the threats are minimized. In addition, the degree of politeness is considered from the circumstance of sociological variable. They are the social distance (D) “the speaker and the hearer symetric relation”, the relative power (P) “the speaker and the hearer asymetric relation”, absolute ranking (R) “imposition in the particular culture”. In this analysis, the writer finds 2 parameter of politeness used by the student, they are social distance and relative power. In this case, the parameter of politeness is to portray to whom the utterance delivered.

From all of kinds Brown and Levinson politeness strategies, positive politeness is mostly used in every status and comment among the student in facebook. It is because of closed relationship among the student.
